In celebration of the excitement of Roy Lerner's solo exhibition "Passport" this past June, Marijana Bego has installed Lerner's artwork at the Bego Ezair Gallery in Southampton and the Bego Ezair Hotel-Gallery in Greenport on Long Island.
These paintings will remain on view until Fall of 2012. This exhibition is a work in progress. Over the course of this year the selection of paintings will evolve and expand into a double exhibition titled "Departures" opening with receptions in Southampton on Sept. 1st, 2012 and in Greenport on Sept. 2nd, 2012.
Currently, the Bego Ezair Gallery in Southampton contains paintings previously exhibited at the Ezair Gallery on Madison Avenue, while the 5 exhibition spaces at the Bego Ezair Hotel-Gallery in Greenport contains Lerner's largest scale work from 1977 to 2011. These paintings are decidedly different than the work we have come to expect from Lerner. Many of the paintings utilize stain and are larger-than-life. Several paintings utilize thick paint and are on warped convex or concave stretchers, taking full advantage of a very unique gallery space.
We hope that you can find the time and witness this exhibition in progress, and hope that you can join us a year from now at the receptions. The Bego Ezair Hotel-Gallery affords one the rare chance to live with the art, sleep with the art, and wake up to experience the north and south fork of Long Island. Nearby you can also visit the Pollock-Krasner House in East Hampton, and the Parish Museum in Southampton.
