Roy at Galerie D'Arts Contemporains |
A view of "New York to Montreal" |
It has (as always) been busy in Roy's studio. First, there was the flurry of activity, brought on by the return of works from a group exhibition at Florence Lynch Gallery in New York. Meanwhile, Roy has been preparing for a series of solo exhibitons. The first opened November 16 at Galerie d'Arts Contemporains in Montréal. That exhibition runs through December 13, 2006. The next opens in Toronto on February 5, 2007, then it's off to Rome for an opening there on Februrary 20. The five shows in Europe are to be held in various of the Boscolo Hotels. Here is the way the schedule looks right now. Gallery One, Toronto, Opening February 5, 2007 Exedra, Roma, February 20, 2007 Astoria, Florence, Opening March 13th Plaza, Nice, Opening May 19th Carlo IV, Prague, October '07 New York Palace, Budapest, November '07
[exact dates still to be finalized] Visitors have been coming and going while Roy juggles painting and the countless activities associated with such on going projects as a book documenting his three decades as an artist, preparing works for shipping to exhibitions and the day-to-day paperwork. |
| "When Roy begins a painting no possibilities are necessarily
closed off nor, conversely, are any required from the outset. His interests
and concerns at the particular moment in time are the key factors in determining
how a certain painting will develop. A number of pictures may be in the
process of being worked on at any given time. Each of any such group of
paintings may, of course, share various attributes and elements with the
others, however, the process thrives on taking detours, creating the opportunity
for fresh discoveries, and spontaneous inspiration." [Christopher White] |

In a book published in Paris by Nouvelles Editions Francaise with New New Paintings as its title, Dr. Kenworth W. Moffett says " Lerner works with the confidence of an artist who has an inner sense of his own strengths and direction. He uses the new, perfectly clear gel and iridescent paint to especially good effect, achieving great subtlety of tone while altering his touch from harshly insistent to feathery." |
